If you choose this menu, you get the following

That is a list of all of the functions that a spreadsheet can do. However, most of the time you will be using simple formulas like: "=C1 * C2", which would multiply the contents of cells C1 and C2.

Assignment:

Now make some changes for yourself. Click on cell C8 and type    =AVERAGE()    . Then click in-between the parentheses ( | ) and then click on Cell C2 and hold the mouse down and drag to cell C7 and release. You should get the average score in Cell C8. It should say something like =AVERAGE(C2..C7).

Now, click in C8 again if you are not already there. Then hold the mouse down and drag to cell G8. Then choose the CALCULATE menu and choose "FILL RIGHT", or instead, just press "Command" + "R". You will see the following on your screen:

The fill right command takes the formula you put in the first cell and applies it to all the cells you selected. The only difference is that is uses the cells in the row above it.

Next, you want to FORMAT the cells with all of the decimals in them because it looks bad. If you double click on a cell, you will see:

If you click on "General" and choose "Fixed" from the drop down menu, then under Decimal Precision: you put a 0, you will get a whole number in the cell. Do that.

You can select a whole row of cells and format them at once. Draw across cells Cells E8 to H8 and then pull down the FORMAT menu and choose "NUMBER" from the top drop down menu. You get the same dialog box as shown above, but it will apply to all of the cells that you have selected, rather than just one. Again, choose "FIXED" from the drop down menu and a Decimal Precision of 0. Show your teacher your results.
