Let's make our first slide look similar to the one on the left. Simply insert your name for John Q. Student (unless that happens to be your name). If you want to make the slide look more unique, go ahead and change the font using the font toolbar on the right of you PowerPoint screen.

As the image above shows, our subtitle is Arial font with a size of 44. You can, of course, choose whatever makes you happy. Go ahead an experiment with the other buttons on this toolbar. You can set font to be Bold, Italic, Underscore etc.

Now let's look at changing the background of our title slide from boring old white, to something with a bit more flair.
Using the "Change Slides" section of your toolbar, you can change many things about your slide(s). Here we have the background and colour scheme options in front of us. If we were to select the Color scheme drop down menu, we would see something similar to the image on the left. As you can see, we have selected the basic "white" color scheme.

Here is our slide, with a new background. Yours will, of course, look a bit different. Let's look at how we would set a transition for this slide. As this is the first slide of the presentation, a transition might be a bit awkward, but then, that decision is up to you. Press the middle button in the slide change layout show below.

You will see the transitions options. We currently have no transition selected. Experiment with these until you find a transition you like.
