There are two menu bars in Blitzmail:
one across the top of the screen:
![]()
and the other at the top of every message you compose

Knowing that, here are the skills you need to demonstrate to complete this unit. The actual assignment is at the bottom of this page.
To Change Password: On the main menu across the top of the screen, select the BLITZMAIL menu:

and in that choose EDIT DND Entry. You'll see a place to change your password.
Blitzmail Preferences: On the main menu across the top of the screen, select the BLITZMAIL menu:

and in that choose Preferences Entry. Perhaps the most interesting item here is the "Automatic Actions" menu:

You can forward your mail to another address, and/or have a vacation message sent to anyone who writes you. The message can say when you will be back, or anything else you want to say. You can see the example in the window pictured above.
Look up a name. On the main menu across
the top of the screen, select the BLITZMAIL menu and in that choose
the LOOK UP A NAME Entry. You can choose from various sites to do
your search. Most of the time, you will choose Thet.net. But you can
search for people at other locations too.
If you click and hold pop-up box you will see a list of sites you can search.
Adding a name to your address book. Your blitzmail account has a personal address book for you. When you receive an email from someone and you want to keep their address so you won't forget it, you can add them to your address book. If they have a long email address that is hard to remember, your address book can be an easy way to write the them. Instead of milliejones@thetford.k12.vt.us, your address book can remember her as just "Millie". Here's what you do:
When you get a message from someone, you choose the "Add sender to address book" choice under the options menu:

You will then get a box to type in the name you want to use for that person. It will often put in the person's whole name in the box, but you can type in anything you want:

Next time you want to write to that person, just type in the name you used after the "To:"

To create a folder. You can save messages and organize them in folders instead of leaving them in your in-box. If you click on the green "Folders" icon, you will get the following:

Yours will likely be blank except for In Box, Sent Msgs and Trash.
Click on New Folder to make a new folder and name it and set its
expiration. Then when you get a message, you can drag it across the
green folders icon
and
it will let you place that message in one of your folders for
safekeeping.
Snapshots. If you are in the middle of typing a message and you have to leave, but don't want to lose what you have written, you can create a snapshot of that message and save it for later. From the File menu in the composing window (where you are writing), choose "Save Snapshot" or type control-s.

The message will be saved. Later, when you sign in, if you choose the FILE menu from the main menu bar at the top of the screen you will see:

If you choose "OPEN SNAPSHOTS" you will get your message where you last left it.
To delete a message. That is easy, just
drag the message from your in-box to the trash icon
in
the Blizmail tools bar.
To empty the trash, choose "EMPTY BLITZMAIL TRASH" from the Blitzmail menu in the main menu bar at the top of your screen.

To send an enclosure. One of the most useful things you can do with email is enclose a file with the message so you can share pictures, word processing files and more with other people. To do that, simply choose the FILE menu in your compose window:

and select "ADD ENCLOSURE" or just type command-e when you are composing. You will get a dialog box with all of the files that you can select to enclose; it may look like:

Then just navigate your way to the file you want and double-click on it and it will be sent to your recipient along with any message you type.
To receive an enclosure. When your message has an enclosure in it, you will see it in a list near the top of your message box:

Here you see two enclosures, one with a size of 21K and the other with a size of 11K. If you wanted to receive these, just double click on the enclosure and you would be able to save it (the above is just a picture, so you can't try it here). CAUTION: if you don't know who has sent you the enclosure, or if the enclosure looks fishy, be careful about saving it. People have infected their computer with viruses after saving enclosures that they weren't expecting. The famous "I LOVE YOU" enclosure was really a virus. Some viruses infect a person's computer and send a message to everyone in their address book. So, you may get an enclosure from someone you know and it can still damage your computer. Make sure you were expecting the enclosure before you save it and open it.
Web addresses in email messages. Sometimes you get (or want to send) a web address in your email message. Businesses do this ALL THE TIME to get you to visit their site. The message might look like this:

If you want to visit the site, click and drag across the URL (web address):

then press the command key while clicking anywhere in the selection; the computer should automatically open up your web browser and go to that site!
